REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ok this is totally mad and also is making a big old political statement.
It veers at moments from high camp / being so bad it is good to some top notch comedy to some impassioned facts and numbers about the LA fires.
And then it has the greatest and most important on screen cameo of lettuce.
It's crazy and you just have to love it.
Alyssa Heyer is our heroine who very sensibly instantly decides to marry Jennings Brower after he slightly randomly rescues her from a fire, as his CEO Chris cosplays as a fireman.
The plastic helmets are something. But then you have some really powerful lines about how little the mayor does and you can feel the hurt and anger at what happened in the script.
Alyssa Heyer and Jennings Brower mainly have to be very sweet as the main couple. This isn't a sizzling one, this is a sugary treat as they are like two puppies falling in love. And whoever thought a spending time and falling in love montage would happen over a Canva presentation.
Then you have Riley Nottingham and Vanessa Nottingham totally stealing the show with their lines (I presume that the surname is not a coincidence and there is a link there).
Wish Vanessa had been given more to do, but the Mayor of LA is a great villain, all political manoeuvring and backhanders. Please can someone tell me who the actress is?
And then you have the lettuce. Now are we at the stage where the writers are putting this in for us? Or is this delusional vanity? Is it just that lettuce has an undeniable screen presence? Or is a darn cheap prop with miniscule day rates? I just don't know anymore!
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
You have to admire the team, they know their audience. Let’s make Jennings Brower a fireman. No let’s go one better, have a leaking tap, make his shirt wet, and then make him take it off as he fixes the broken sink. It’s not subtle 😆
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
The mayor of LA. I don’t know enough about the LA politics and the wildfires, but admire that a vertical has gone straight for the jugular here and makes some big points.
Also Mayor Davis actually steeples her fingers at one point as she plots...
😂 Comedy gold:
The plastic dress up helmets Chris’s fire fighter crew have.
The whole thing with the mints - excellent running joke.
And the line to Vanessa Nottingham saying “when are you going to get me one of those?” “When you get some class”.
🎺 Unsung hero:
CANVA
There is a whole falling in love scene over putting together a presentation in Canva. I would know that blue menu bar anywhere. This is made on Canva. Canva allows me to run my business. FINALLY CANVA getting the screen time it deserves
and then this...
THIS IS THE BEST EVER APPEARANCE OF LETTUCE IN A VERTICAL
THE LETTUCE GOT TO SHARE A SCENE WITH THE JENNINGS BROWER
did they know what they were doing?
Is this for us? Or is the power of the lettuce almighty? It’s screen presence cannot be denied.
