REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is so so so so so good. Look we know Nicole Mattox and Jake Hobbs are brilliant but this features the best performances I have ever seen from either of them on screen, and indeed some of the best performances ever in a vert.

There is so much to love.

Firstly THANK YOU. Rather than showing assault, this story features not one but 2 male predators being brought to justice. HELL YES. Everything I said in the awards. Tell the stories we want to see on screen.

And the fact Chris supports Esther through that at the beginning is everything (as is Dylan Vox who is superb playing it real rather than pantomime).

- We have a sensible swimming pool situation, it isn't that she can't swim, but Esther has concussion after being attacked by Sofia, who then also pushes her under. Excellent dive btw Jake Hobbs.

- Esther finally speaks for us all to Sophia (Maggie Rose Hudson) "If that's how you show your love, Chris deserves so much better".

- Logan Hannigan is always brilliant, but is especially superb in this one (cheered when he took on Sophia, and came running in with the stick to take out the robbers). Put him together with Jake Hobbs and it is the best double act ever. We need a buddy vert with the 2 of them.

But this is about the romance and connection between Esther and Chris. And these two made me forget to breathe.

The moment by the pool where she sobs and he just holds her. Then when he jokes, and Esther nearly breaks at having to save him again.

Watch Jake Hobbs in Ep 42 and tell me that isn't one of the best moments on screen in a vert. It's raw and so emotionally charged. So I am now crying (Jake has now joined the list of actors who have made me cry - the OG Alex Pychtin then Mark Vega).

Then Nicole Mattox in Ep 43. I didn't think she could find another gear, but she goes up a level again. Just the layers to this people. It is so effortless and insanely good.

Put them together and it is breath-taking.

I know I am going on but this vertical deserves all the praise for so many reasons.

And don't you ever tell me some of the best acting out there right now isn't in Verticals.

Bravo all.

💖 Top swoonworthy moment:

If you want heartbreaking, tender, breath-taking romance you are in the right place. Chris falls in love with Esther twice! I love that he doesn’t even care why she broke up with him at the end. It’s even better because it isn’t a billionaire romance. It’s 2 decent people who fall deeply in love with each other, and find their way back to each other because they are meant to be. Love story for the ages.

🦹🏼‍♂️ Top villain award:

The Dickens family are horrific, but I actually want to give it to Dylan Vox as Esther’s stepfather, who in a few brief scenes at the beginning is truly terrifying, and a phenomenal performance.

😂 Comedy gold:

There are some fun moments with Chris and Matt squaring up to each other. But it turns out that Jake Hobbs and Logan Hannigan are the double act we never knew we needed. In particular the orange juice scene! That poor plant.

🎺 Unsung hero:

Matt Keats is great but it has to be the mayor of Blossom Town, Mark Chinnery. OF COURSE Mark Chinnery is the mayor of Vertland, this makes so much sense. Love his panicked attempts to keep the deals on track that will finance the town.
