Ooh this is so good. @amsullz and @samanthaalex promised me a show that passes the Bechdel Test and this passes with flying colours
And we have character growth!!!!!!!!
We have a character who has been through trauma and it is not just brushed away but is clearly there impacting her
We have vertical parents who do their best, hold the badly behaving child responsible, and are outraged at the black card bill
We have FEMALE FRIENDSHIPS
By far my favourite role of @talia_wynzel as Cosette is damaged and scrappy, holds her own against Anna but also grows and learns to trust other people, and helps Jenny. She is so good from the comedic fake niceties at the beginning to thawing and becoming more assured later on
@cosettehatch is brilliantly cast as Anna, because you can't quite believe she will be that mean. This is what I mean by casting against type, it makes it more interesting for the viewer. And she does a truly brilliant spoiled pout, stomp, hair toss and fake grin. Plus we need a sequel, we know that is not the last we have seen of Anna
All the characters get their moment @morganfranzz dawning realisation as Raquelle that Anna doesn't care about her at all
@gwendolynlaub as adorable Jenny who is the first person who is genuinely kind to Cosette
I am at the stage now where I would watch @liam.silbernagel open a paper bag, just fantastic in everything he is in, no matter the size of the role
We also have parents who attempt to you know 'parent' in a vertical which is new and refreshing to see
It is so well done because it also delivers vertical pacing and beats, but gently takes them to another level in a new story.
I'm saying it. I preferred this to Mean Girls. Always thought Mean Girls a bit overrated, the whole lecture are the end too much. Plus this is bolder - even less time given to the male love interest.
Well done all the team involved.
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
None as this is not about the romance - it’s about friendships, and actually the sweetest moments are the burgeoning friendship between Cosette and Jenny. And a little bit heartbroken for Raquelle when she realises Anna doesn’t care about her at all.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
So well done - because for a long time we are not clear if the real villain is Cosette, Anna or they are both as bad as each other. Inspired casting as well keeps viewers guessing.
😂 Comedy gold:
Talia Wynzel pulls some brilliant faces, and I did get the giggles when she crawls into Anna’s bedroom to steal the charm bracelet. And the shout from her dad at the end when he gets his black card bill.

Dad rebuking Anna for showing that video - hooray! Vertical parent finally telling off badly behaved offspring
