REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐
We have seen the story many times before, but the new setting - the music business, and addition of @nicolemattox_ as lead makes this well worth a watch.
Firstly if you want to know how to do a proper voice over study what @nicolemattox_ does. I'm not a massive fan of voice overs in verts, they often spell out the blinking obvious, and weak. This has all the emotion and adds to the story
@nicolemattox_ is one of the most talented actresses out there and I am just waiting for her to be cast in a big movie or network show so I can say I told you so. It will happen. And she elevates every part of this story from the way she reacts to Madison, looks at Kevin or her facial expressions on the speed dates
Speed dates were top comedy btw....have you thought about your liquidity?
@kennyfrom_southpark is great as dimwit Kevin who is as Pete points out the most self absorbed person ever, and thankfully at the very, very end finally makes one good decision. He manages to make him just about likeable enough you can see why Lilah was with him
Madison is super - I can't find the actress, internet please help! The script is developed enough that her character is well drawn, we don't have insults or slaps here, instead it is manipulation, and being totally dismissive of Kevin when talking to her gang
Thankfully @thesammorgan turns up and is the very nice guy Jack who is exactly what Lilah needs and provides the happy ever after
Now one of the best bits of this is the whole concept of the charm bracelet and then the songs.
We have singing on screen, and it is a good song. Can't find on Spotify at the moment....hoping that may be an option long term
This is an old school vert narrative, but because it is well written, with layers of detail (the extended conversation with the fake doctor) it brings something new to the table.
A minor quibble, a few continuity edits, Kevin finds out about the miscarriage happening months ago twice, and the same with the doctor papers. But I am being picky here.
Watch for the singing and @nicolemattox_ being the queen she is.
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
Jack is there to provide an example for Lilah of what love can be, and someone who actually puts her first. Releasing all those songs on YouTube is actually the grand gesture. Very glad he got his happy ending.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
Madison is a piece of work - ‘once a simp always a simp’ says it all. I liked the details of having another woman call her out for wrecking her marriage, the discussion with the fake doctor, and even the band despairing of Kevin favouring her.
😂 Comedy gold:
This is drama rather than comedy but I do rather love the most passive aggressive jewellery ever - where Lilah gets a new charm for her bracelet every time Kevin lets her down. And people she has 5 bracelets!
🎺 Unsung hero:
Manager Pete and the band - who had to put up with Kevin being completely useless and self absorbed. Bit of a cheer when Pete finally loses patience and shouts at Kevin. That’s multiple people’s careers he is ruining. SACK KEVIN and get a new lead singer.
