REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Oh my goodness this is wonderful. Billion Naira Bride has taken all the best bits of traditional verticals, removed all the problematic things and made a story full of heart, humour and hope.
It's so good. We have a strong female lead, who champions her family, stands up for herself but also makes mistakes and owns them.
And a male CEO who GROWS, and wants to fix the problems in his company, and actually deeply loves his wife.
We reinvent the swimming pool with the 'my eyes' incident. The problematic parent is given help.
Apart from possibly Lola the characters are all rounded and human and messy and adorable
The performances are amazing
@aderonkeonuoha is mesmerising as Zara, she has effortless presence, but adds layers and her scenes with all her family members are particularly moving
@jaybocharles has a tricky task as Ade isn't that likeable at the beginning but does a brilliant job of ensuring we are cheering him on as a viewer to become a better person.
And they are so good together, there is chemistry and tenderness and affection. When you see it here you realise how often this is missing in verticals. Affection. Our lead characters are fond of each other
And everyone is superb, I can't find most of the cast, both mums are wonderful. @spiffystella is super as Lola
Everything looks great, the costumes are stunning especially love the orange dress Zara has on at one point
And we have a proper happy ending. I sat and grinned with happiness when there was a proper proposal and Zara's mum turned up at the wedding looking wonderful and celebrating the happy news
This is a feel good romance and just what was needed

Can't wait to watch more from this creative team in Nigeria.
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
This is so well done, because Zara and Ade bicker, both make mistakes, learn, grow and apologise to each other.
Zara doesn’t suffer fools gladly and there is a lovely moment where Ade suffers his first rejection and has to sit with that. And then it is all about him learning how to be a better man, standing up for his wife, thinking about what she wants and more. But my fave bit is the bear hug he gives her when they are reunited. Just that happiness to be with his person again. You feel it through the screen.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
Oh Lola. As soon as Ade’s cards were declined your true colours were shown. She is our boo hiss villain.
Zara’s mother seems awful but is actually a much more nuanced character. Brilliant script and acting make her scenes incredibly moving and there is a beautiful redemption and happy ending here at the end. Finally a vertical where someone is taken to rehab for their gambling and drinking.
And I am rather fond of the hustling investigator who is making money off everyone. Good job Zara for calling him out and also using him to bring down Lola.
😂 Comedy gold:
Lola swallowing the engagement ring 😂 Also Zara threatening to haunt Ade if she falls down the stairs when he is leading her down them with her eyes shut.
🎺 Unsung hero:
Madame Yewande, Ade’s mum. Because for a moment I thought she was going to be a scheming vertical mother, but in fact she just wants Ade to grow up and fulfil his potential.
