REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a vertical of two halves - it is actually the beginning which is weaker, but if you stick with it, then it improves as it goes along, and has a great twist ending as Emma and Max turn the tables on Jen

By far the strongest component all the way through is @cristianlager who has been brilliant in his 2 projects so far and I hope to see in lots more - he brings an edge to his bad boys, and can do the vulnerability and emotion when needed. He is v v good, just watch his reactions to his father here.

@_catherinewilson has a tough task with Hallie as the character is a victim for a lot of the storyline, all the endless bullying stuff. Plus the alternate game world is frankly soppy, would have much preferred if they had shown Hallie being kick ass in this universe. Thankfully things improve as we go along, and Hallie is given a bit of a glow up as her confidence increases, and owns the room at the end

I think my grumpiness is the tired old high school bullying. Vertical costumers go through a lot of shirts that are ripped off, food and drink spilled etc. I just want writers to be a tad more original and inventive. At least with the volleyball nets the joke is Hallie falls over them herself.

@thatsmadisonwest does her best with Jen, and I must say does the most stylish and iconic throwing papers all over a hallway

And we do have a new thing....a leaf blower. It doesn't quite work when Cole has it, but it is a fan ending when Jake uses it on Jen. Hooray for leaf blowers, see that is original!

As is the inclusion of Emma @tay_ba011 and Max @evanpetrino - love their storyline at the end, and really wish they had more screen time throughout. Jen you really should have remembered her name!

And finally I have to shout out Mrs Gorman (I actually had a grumpy teacher of that name) played by @cassijerkins who somehow has not been broken by all the teens but brings the energy and mega watt smile. I adore you.

So yep slightly wrong way round this, the beginning is weak, but stick with it and it gets better and better, with more original ideas later on.

And TBH worth it for the leaf blower at the end!

💖 Top swoonworthy moment:

This is made by Cristian Lager as he does an excellent hurt yearning as Cole - finding out fairly early on who his online love is, and then struggling to hide it to protect her, and keep his father off his back.

🦹🏼‍♂️ Top villain award:

Jen stomps around and is the standard vertical high school bully, which is a bit tedious as they all do the same things - try and rip a shirt off, print out embarrassing things. We need new ideas writers. Best bit is the end, when everyone turns on her at prom.

😂 Comedy gold:

Mrs Gorman who is the smiliest teacher ever - I swear she is taking something to have that energy dealing with all those teenagers, and takes it to heart when they let her down with their behaviour. Hooray for Mrs Gorman - give this woman a raise.

🎺 Unsung hero:

The unexpected heroic duo of Emma and Max, who are why this is 4 stars rather than 3. They turn the tables on Jen, act as matchmakers, and get our two leads together. Top work team, wish you had more screen time earlier on!
