Cuffed To My Silver Fox Captain

starring: KAILEY MERIDA & TJ WILK

When Macy returns home to start a job as a cop on the local police force, her main aim is to solve her mother’s murder. What she doesn’t expect is that her one night stand from the night before is her new boss, and her ex’s father...

REVIEW

Many years ago there was a short lived TV show called Extreme set in a mountain rescue team with James Brolin, Cameron Bancroft and Julie Bowen. And the leads here really remind me of Cameron and Julie, as does the small town setting

Because Flareflow are making a real effort to localise verticals dramas and it is a fun change if pace to see small town bars rather than endless skyscrapers

Firstly I am so happy that TJ Wilk got this role, he has been doing sterling work on vertical dramas for years but not had a script or project that I could love. That changes here. He channels David Boreanz to do the brooding, imposing police chief with a heart. He sells the father son dynamics with Brett, but also brings the chemistry for scenes with Macy

I was a bit worried about the Macy character at the beginning, she seemed a numpty who would always need rescuing but thankfully the writing improves and Kailey Merida is given a lot more to do, from sassing her boss, to saving herself at the end. Being picky I wish the character had been even more kick ass, would have loved to see Kailey get to kick more butt

Darrell Philip is great as the greedy mayor who doesn't give two figs about his daughter

Tanna Frederick is brilliant as Sloane and hope to see her lots more in Verticals. Just the way she did the 1 - 2 count and then made it a gun. So clever

But my fave has to be Brett (Liam Silbernagel) with his tantrums. Note nothing is ever Brett's fault 😆 we all know people like that. He just became my favorite character in this, and could watch lots more of his misadventures

Overall we do stray a lot into the cheesy, with a lot of lingering shots of Cole. It's the irony that by changing up the setting, so taking us out of CEO land, some of the vertical tropes do jar a bit more when sent against a more regular American TV setting. But it's a good attempt, fun watch and thankfully free of vertical abuse and violence.

REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐

💖 Top swoonworthy moment:

You have to give it to TJ Wilk, his willingness to let the camera linger is something. Macy spends a lot of time looking! But actually my favourite part was when Cole picks Macy up, puts her over his shoulder, and then uses his hat to cover her skirt, to protect her. That’s swoonworthy.

🦹🏼‍♂️ Top villain award:

Darrell Philip does evil mayor very well - we should put him up against the Mayor in Buffy (Richard Wilkins III) and let them duke it out. But I did rather love Sloane (Tanna Frederick) - she presses all Cole’s buttons and was joyous to watch.

😂 Comedy gold:

Um unintential but a little more competence required here - the perp at the mayor’s house easily deals with the 2 cops. Which is even more embarrassing when you find out who the perp is...

Also loved Brett and Sloane’s posing for photos after his promotion

🎺 Unsung hero:

Brett (Liam Silbernagel) and his moustache. Initally he reminded me of Bo in Superstore, but then becomes his own character with extreme Daddy issues. He was my favourite, totally stole the show and I mainly wanted to watch lots more of his grown man tantrums
