REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐
More joy and more silliness. Something I think the world is in desperate need of and this vert delivers.
It made me laugh out loud multiple times.
It really is a bodyguard romance gone wrong as Claire and John get together and cuckold poor Aiden.
Hooray for the macguffin then that Emma gets struck but lighting and gets her gift. And I love that we don't worry about the science of this but just embrace it.
Mariah Moss has a tricky job as Emma. Because Emma is in English terms Judgey Mcjudgey face with how she reacts to Lena. Girl you twice kiss a man you know is engaged. And she lashes out too harshly at poor Aiden.
I wish the character had been slightly better written because my favourite moments are when Mariah gets to lean into the comedy... the bathroom scene, the tacos, trying to get hit by lightning, keeping a straight face as Jenna Catto is insanely funny with the cymbals.
These are my fave bits and more comedy for Mariah please.
Jeff Violette has the best role here. I mean he is a Pharma CEO with a heart. He is a top doctor. And gets to do reaction shots. Jeff does the best reaction shots from being sprayed in the eyes to the whole thing with tacos.
Love when Mike punches him, he encounters Jeff's abs of steel. And his dismay at giving John a payrise. Plus there are other great moments, like when all the board are arrested and he never looks up from the paperwork.
He is so charming and lovable it does seem harsh when Emma lashes out at him. And you do wonder why he fell for Claire, but then decide it is because he is a decent man trying to do the right thing
Liz Fenning has tons of fun vamping it up. Esp loved the Queen Elsa outfit and her total glee at finally getting that proposal.
Ottavio Taddei has a great moment near the end where he finally reveals all to his boss and nearly takes him out (not phased by Jeff's abs of steel). Unfortunately Emma and that metal tray do for him.
There are a few story missteps, as I don't think Lena would do that. And there seems to be an issue in the App Shorts app as I couldn't get final episode to load.
But all in all this is just what we all need FUN FUN FUN.
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
Nevermind the Hallmark style cooking montage (just to say I have never flicked flour playfully, too much mess). This has the most green flag, swoonworthy moment I have seen for a long time in verticals. When Aiden knows Emma will be having a panic attack, and texts her with what to do. That my friends is husband material.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
You all know I love a good bodyguard romance, unfortunately this one goes a bit wrong as Claire and John do the dirty on poor Aiden. Oddly I feel slightly to blame 😂. And Claire does get to go full mad scientist at the end with those scissors.
😂 Comedy gold:
So many things:
“I prefer to keep my identity secret” - shows him magazine where he is on the cover
“It was cold in here too just so you know” - after the hilarious mutual screams and towel drop
The angry mob, esp. the woman with the chair just screaming EMMA
🎺 Unsung hero:
I am so annoyed with the whole Mike storyline, which made no sense as Lena clearly a best buddy for the ages who wouldn’t do that. Love the way she immediately embraces Emma’s gift and how to make money. And the little cymbals are everything.
