REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is a bright, fun romantic comedy that zips along on DramaPops.
One of the first things you will notice is that it has possibly the best use of a voiceover in a vert, none of those cringeworthy expositions but instead a cool, sassy narrative voiceover from Destiny played by Kyra Wisely.
The macguffin of Tamara's amnesia is swiftly set up so we can get on with the elevator meet cute between Destiny and Grant.
And these two are lots of fun in a romantic comedy, Kyra drives the whole thing forwards and this is another stand out leading lady role. The comedy timing, the heart when needed, it's top quality stuff.
Jeff Violette is a great counterpart as he is quite happy to let the leading lady shine, and look on fondly. He does a very good eye crinkle. Since he stepped into leading man roles Jeff has a great knack for picking really green flag characters, Grant very much sees Destiny as an equal. I also think he has been on more bad dates than anyone else, and I can't see them ending anytime soon as he is so funny reacting to them.
I would also like to know why Grant doesn't go skydiving anymore.
And the supporting cast are fab.
Francesca Louise White is an absolute hoot as Tamara, every moment she is on screen is brilliant, her facial expressions, eating that cucumber, everything.
Connan Aaron last seen being swoonworthy as Mr Darcy does a good comic turn as doofus ex Chad more concerned with his designer clothes than anything else, who can't see what he has done wrong and thinks all can be fixed with a 'baby'.
And Arabella Glanville is loads of fun as Ashley, once again a vert villainess let down by her henchman and having to do everything herself.
There are loads of good ideas here, and it is so close to a 5 star. It just lost it a bit at the end as it rushed/missed the Grant and Destiny reconciliation.
I felt robbed at that moment where they talk it though and put emotions on the line. Basically I wanted more!
Although that pay off of everyone queueing for the lift whilst Grant and Destiny are 'busy' is a chef's kiss ending.
Well done to all involved, great job.
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
There are some really sweet moments, but the main thing is that Grant loves the fact that Destiny has a brain. It is an equal partnership.
Oh and a relationship where the main couple laugh together.
I just wish that there had been an extra epsiode when Grant comes round to ‘Tamara’ being Destiny. That all felt rushed, and we were denied a good emotional scene.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
We have a really rather loveable villain in Ashley, who has just been totally spoilt by her dad. I mean he calls her Snookums. And solution to all issues is to buy her a horse or a new car. I do hope that the one she got was pink and sparkly.
😂 Comedy gold:
😆 Pretty much everything Tamara does
- the need for better thread count on hospital sheets, treating the physical therapist as her personal masseuse
- “But first I need to get my brows threaded. To the salon”
😆 Chad’s panic about his Gucci loafers
😆 Bestie Janie throwing all the papers in the air whilst trying to ‘help’
🎺 Unsung hero:
Tamara Stone who is an absolute hoot - and has some personal growth. And Destiny for being the first person in Vertland who is worried about the employees, layoffs and redundancies. Make this woman CEO of all Vertland businesses.
