REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
So needed. See this is why I watch verticals. Reality is pretty tough for most of us these days.
I want to escape. I want to smile. I want to laugh and I want to feel better.
So thank you everyone who made this because it did all the above and more.
It's a classic gender bender confusion which I always enjoy, and someone had the genius idea of casting Sophia Delucchi who has to be one of the best comedy actresses in the world at the moment. She is that good.
And I suspect a lot of the bits I love were the director just letting Sophia do her thing, some of the moves, a little moment of song in the office, the hand gestures.
You have to go with it in this one. I mean Sophia's nails are immaculate, and anyone looking at her hands would suspect she is a girl. I reckon that's how Jared knew.
Which is all credit to JT Garcia who has to sell that Noah doesn't figure it out whilst not making him a total doofus. And not corpse whilst Sophia is doing Sophia things and a plastic goldfish is on the floor.
And he does it! Honestly bravo. He is so good in this because he has to sell the story. And keep it all going with the crazy around him. The fact that we still ship Noah and Riley is all credit to him... especially when Jordy Tulleners turns up as Jared and very nearly steals both the audience and Riley's heart.
I have been banging on about how good Alexandra Swanbeck is and she smashes it again as Samantha. It's a more subtle villain, as she makes her seem reasonable if perhaps manipulative until the scene in the car with Dylan Vox.
All that veneer is gone and we finally see 2 grifters and that makes the whole story work. You suddenly totally understand who they are.
It's just utterly lovely. It is perhaps a little rushed near the end, and would have liked more made of Noah and Riley getting together, and having a big reveal moment.
But that is me being picky, basically I wanted more as I enjoyed this so much.
Huge thanks to all involved.
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
It’s a great example of heart over logic. Logical Noah spends his time very confused. When emotion / heart takes over and he rushes to save Riley, we swoon. And this is a he falls first story, as Riley takes her time. In a fun twist for a lot of the story she is more interested in the money than Noah, so it means more when she finally realises how much she cares.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
Turns out Alexandra Swanbeck is very good at going bad as Samantha - my favourite bit is when all pretence at being a classy heiress goes, and she is sat smoking in the car, plotting with her dad. All the polish has gone, and you see the real Samantha.
😂 Comedy gold:
We know we are in good hands from the moment Ken drops to his knee to apologise to Noah, and beg not to be fired. The whole thing is brilliant, led by the genius that is Sophia Delucchi. And the fact that the goldfish is so obviously plastic when it is on the floor just makes the whole scene and Noah’s distress funnier.
🎺 Unsung hero:
Oh Jared - you are too good! Perfect second male lead situation as genuinely had a moment thinking perhaps Riley should go for him - an emotionally intelligent and astute movie star!
