REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is so utterly lovely on GoodShort - a great love story, amazing leads, totally OTT Villian and then Kelsey Susino Taylor who has clearly decided to be the reigning comedy giant in that particular household.

The legal setting is so clever as it introduces high stakes (Daniel is being manipulated by a Mafia family) and there is the real obstacle that a public defender and a prosecutor cannot be together.

Grant Thomas is flipping brilliant as Kit (pun intentional check out his recent Instagram post). He is the moral heart of the story, always trying to do the right thing and stick up for the underdog and it is so satisfying when the past clients come back to help in the end. He is a beacon of light.

Then Ramiro Leal is insanely good as Daniel who seems ultra cool and composed but is actually hiding so much, and that moment when he has a breakdown in the bathroom is so well done, especially as it is around consent. The whole scene with the pair of them is perfectly judged.

Plus they get to have fun, love the Kevlar reveal to Artemis, and would totally watch a legal series with the pair of them saving the day every week.

It turns out Abigail Stanton makes an excellent villain as the unhinged Artemis, threatening witnesses everywhere. Love the endless wads of cash she has in burger boxes, coffee cups and shopping bags.

But the whole thing is nearly stolen by Kelsey Susino Taylor as Brittany... from the first entrance into the office, her important engagement clubbing, snorting drugs and hoisting up her boobs, and the shenanigans with the masks and the best ever courtroom dance at winning. Every single mannerism and gesture is pitch perfect and it is just so much fun.

The only reason she doesn't totally steal the show is because the love story between Kit and Daniel is so good. They both risk their lives for each other, Daniel finds a reason to get out of the Mafia and we get a much needed happy ending.

So good 👍😊👍

💖 Top swoonworthy moment:

This is the most amazing love story - Daniel has loved Kit since they were young “You’re the only reason I don’t hate myself” and then extricates himself from the mob to be with Kit. It’s two people who do everything for each other, and it is just the best. Plus the first kiss is pretty darn memorable, ending in a hail of bullets in the courtroom.

🦹🏼‍♂️ Top villain award:

So Artemis (excellent name btw) is totally unhinged, and my fave moment is when she is so over the top at the end she has a giant gun (pleased to say don’t know what it is called) and a whole ammunition belt over her evening gown.

😂 Comedy gold:

Every second Brittany (Kelsey Susino Taylor) is on screen. Every look, sashay and quotable line:

“You can’t prove that. I bribed all the witnesses” (said in front of multiple witnesses)

“Sidebar!”

“Ha I win, yes yes yes yes yes” (I plan to incorporate this dance into my everyday life)

🎺 Unsung hero:

There is a lovely moment where past clients Kit has helped save the day. And I do love Judge Vaughan (Andrecia Hinton) who puts a stop to all the nonsense in her courtroom.
