REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐
This feels like a text book classic vert, well put together and well done.
It is made by the measured writing and performances.
Olivia Sewell gets a great role as Vivian, because she stands up for herself from the beginning against her awful family, is the CEO and has realistic thoughtful reactions to vert scenarios such as the baby storyline and finding out Aaron's big lie. It is so much more satisfying seeing a strong women, Vivian gets to punch out the awful Steven at the end.
Because she is a team and an equal with Aaron rather than a damsel who needs rescuing.
And Ryan Larson is super as Aaron because he is the master of kind eyes and forehead kisses. And it is so good seeing such a respectful relationship on screen.
Of course we have to deal with baddies Steven (Erik Delaire) and Ashley (Leah Kirkup) who are great and stir up a nuisance without ever taking it too OTT with their performances.
And I have a big soft spot for William (Nolan Rush) and his huge grin at being asked for dating advice by his boss.
This vert isn't going to change the world, but it is a great example of a well made vert, without the toxic tropes, that has a mature love story and grounded performances at its heart.
Which makes it a bit of a gem.
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
This is all about the fact that Aaron falls head over heels for Vivian from early on, and for once in a vertical woos her. He buys her flowers. He plans a date. He makes her lunch. This is one smitten kitten. And it really works that Vivian doesn’t instantly respond, but only slowly falls for Aaron in a really considered way. A mature, grown up romance.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
We have a half brother and step sister with massive chips on their shoulders. Interestingly one has a good parent, the other has a bad one, and both turn out terribly. I did enjoy Ashley’s “we played by their rules and it didn’t work out” so now it is time to kidnap thought process.
😂 Comedy gold:
Not comedy gold, but there is a great exchange early on:
“That’s not just revenge boss. That’s art”
“That’s justice”
Also of course X is “the most powerful man in the world”
🎺 Unsung hero:
William the ultimate assistant, who is trusted so much Aaron gives him all the shares of the company.
