Thank goodness for Las Vegas, the essential set up for many a rom com.
This is a great effort from the team at @flareflowapp
I think the script does try a little too hard at the start, it feels bumpy rather than smooth, and there are a few bits it takes a while to figure out. Oliver loves Elle but in the 'they don't get along scenes' verges on rude so you wonder why he stole his brother's date and if he cares. Plus I know why the acid trip was included but meh.
Look I am being tough here - there is a pressure to give almost anything that doesn't have slaps / misogyny etc an instant 5 stars just for that.
This isn't perfect, as I said a few bumps. However the script settles down, and the latter half is super.
And what makes this is the performances
We all know @nicolemattox_ is brilliant, and it is great getting her to see her play a slightly different character here, more unsure of herself and very much girl next door.
This is the best performance I have seen by @sammyerson - another level here, probably because he has something to work with. Oliver is complex, gets in his own way, but when it is all revealed that he has loved Elle for over a year it makes sense. And Sam sells it all, heartbreak in his eyes, body language at the end of a man who has lost his wife. It's so good
As is everyone else
@summermoran please put her in everything. I want a girl buddy comedy with Summer and someone else as leads. Causing chaos. Has to happen. She is just joyous
@thresa_richardson is on a run of awesome characters and love her fierce matriarch who only wears Hermes but still loves her kids
And @thesammorgan is honestly far too nice as Pierce. Very chill about it all really given he loses out to Oliver twice. But then I think he knows he will be ok finding a lady given he is 'the most attractive one' 😆 Also given the Variety Show over Christmas now we know Sam sings beautifully was vaguely hoping to see a bit of the superstar in action Maybe next time?
All in all this is lovely, and I think the best bit is actually there is no villain. Even the girl mum wants Oliver to hook up with is great and just ditches everyone when she sees the mess.

💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
Some really nice moments here - Oliver doing a common romance movie trope, listing physical mannerisms that he loves about Elle, Elle saying she is more than this, and Oliver then following up with substance. The script does almost too good a job of showing how they don't get along, until our leads finally bond over the Clippers. Sam Myerson does an excellent fall in love across the room at first sight. Plus we have a cute romantic letter at the end.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
None - yep break from the norm. And we don't need one. Because we are humans and more than capable of self sabotaging ourselves – cue Oliver really making a bit of a mess of this. His biggest challenge to overcome is himself.
😂 Comedy gold:
I did enjoy Thresa Richardson channelling Miranda Priestly as the mom. But it has to be Summer Moran as bestie Kennedy who is a fizzball of energy every time she is on screen. We will not talk about the hallucinogenic chocolate trip.
🎺 Unsung hero:
Poor Pierce - Oliver steals his date not once but twice - everyone seems to forget Elle said she would go to his concert, but then ditches it for Oliver. Honestly Pierce is far too nice. A rock star tantrum would have been justified.
