REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐

The set up of this is great, 5 years ago a dating show ended with betrayal and heartbreak. What happens when the contestants are brought back together?

Clue it doesnt end well and a lot of the challenges are deadly...

They are some super lines, and it rollicks along

But tonally the performances are all over the place. It feels like everyone is in a different project and that is why it didn't quite mesh for me

@kiley.nicole.pearson has a tough job as Sophia isn't that likeable, but she makes us empathise with her, someone trying to do the right thing but messing up. Her final scene is superb

@tabiyusnah is also great as Caden, who outwardly is there purely to play the game, but actually does have a heart

@samanthaneylandtrumbo is great as bitchy Leila and needed more screen time

Then we have @jakedhobbs in full comedy mode which is joyous to watch, but doesn't quite mesh with finding bodies after murders

@felix_merback in full on acting mode, going all Shakespearean on us. Which feels too much compared to the tone of the rest of the project

And @erictaylorguilmette stranded in a box with an annoying monotone voice which makes PERFECT sense when we have the big reveal, and is supoosed to be irritating as he slowly pushes the contestants to breaking point, but ended up making me wince as well.

I suspect I am being a bit too grumpy here. The story is fresh and the pace is sustained throughout

It just feels a bit disjointed, and I think that is due to the wide variety of tone in performances.

💖 Top swoonworthy moment:

Everyone is out for themselves here to be honest, not a place for swoonworthy romance. Though I would argue Caden comes through at the end.

🦹🏼‍♂️ Top villain award:

I am pretty sure you will work it out, as there is quite a bit of foreshadowing, but the twists are decently done. Also Eric Guilmette is eminently punchable in this as the ever smiling, infuriating host of the game, but it all makes sense at the end. So job done!

😂 Comedy gold:

Every time Jake Hobbs’ Alden is on screen. He is too pretty to die, and has all the best lines in the show.

🎺 Unsung hero:

I do rather love bitchy Leila, who can’t be doing with a lot of it, given the ridiculous heart challenge and deserved a more epic end.
