REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a lost gem, made in 2024, and finally released on TikTok by Lunar Ticks Films . Vivian Wang is the writer behind some of the very best verticals including Come Back For You, this is a brilliant grown up thriller and romance. Kiley Nicole Pearon’s Ava is such an interesting role, never weak, even when having to bend to her father's will, and clever enough to work out how to get out from under his thumb. An intelligent female lead! Roles many dream of playing now. And this is one of my favorite Seth Edeen roles - he cleverly makes Larry so carefree and innocent, you suspect he may be taken for a ride by everyone, but then we find out later on Larry knows what he is doing, and there is a reason he is CEO of the company. It's so nice seeing a CEO in with warmth and a personality, refreshing change again. And the allergy attack was a bit too convincingly real. Had me worried there. Love Kelsey Maskell as ambitious Ivy. No one does a determined chin jut as well as Kelsey, and the irony here is that Ivy may look like the villain but is in fact spot on with her assessment of Ava. Also super seeing Rebecca Stoughton in a different role, being the villain here (although also seen as an ugly sister in the Reelshort Cinderella mini movie). But the star of the show is Jon Briddell - channeling Michael Douglas, he exudes power throughout the story. He is the domineering presence you need to drive the story on. What is delightful is there is no abuse or name calling here.

This is a thoroughly grown up vertical, where Dominic uses a carrot as much as the stick to get Ava to do what he wants. It is a brilliant demonstration of the potential of verticals, and that you can do intelligent storytelling with romance, and a slightly sad look back to the more innocent days of 2024 before we got sucked into the click bait excess of sex, shock and outrage that can dominate our screens. I want to say a huge thanks to Vivian for working tirelessly to get this vertical released, and finding a platform for us all to enjoy it. Just search Lunarticks Films US on TikTok and you will find it. Enjoy

💖 Top swoonworthy moment:

Larry Edgar is a non stop walking green flag the whole way through, a delightfully charming CEO who has the respect of his staff and is in touch with his emotions. And the switcheroo / reveal at the end is really well done.

🦹🏼‍♂️ Top villain award:

Dominic Paige (Jon Briddell) has to be one of the best villainous CEO's ever in a vertical - clever, controlled and ruthless he never strays into OTT tropes, and instead is incredibly believable and charming at times. Superb.

😂 Comedy gold:

None - but Rebecca Stoughton is so good as spoilt Daddy's girl Rachel. She does an excellent foot stomp and hair toss. And I appreciate that Dominic see her flaws, and values Ava's brains and shrewdness.

🎺 Unsung hero:

Ivy - because she was right all along! Ava was a spy. I also see her point about nepotism, although at the end we learn that Larry is more than capable of running the company so perhaps unfair. But Ivy, you were right to quit.
