REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Well this is very good, because it has a clever idea at the heart of it. Stable girl Sarah can't read, because her hideous stepmother never allowed her to get an education.
It's simple but so effective, adds a new level of 'will it all be found out' and heartwarming scenes when Grandpa takes her under his wing. Whoever thought of this please stand up and take a bow. I salute you.
And the whole vertical is great
Yes stepmom Adele is hideous, but the violence is a threat rather than actual and that makes a massive difference to me as a viewer.
The whole cast is superb
@_jessegallagher glows there is no other word for it. Luminous quality and Sarah is so likeable and someone you can connect with
This is my fave role of @travbeachboy to date, he gets to look cool riding a horse, rescue Sarah but also some big emotional moments as we learn about his struggle to trust after being at war, and anger when he thinks he has been lied to
It's so good the relationship between them, well written script, looks stunning and lots of chemistry. Proper love story here
Lovely to see @tinaannbrock get to play the Southern matriarch, a bit misguided with the drugs, but brings it back with how well she treats Sarah. Love the accent, and indeed Southern (I think) accents from everyone.
@johnhenryrichardson does his thing of elevating every second he is on screen and his scenes with Sarah are magical. He is the caring grandpa we all want, he brings such a warmth and comfort to the screen that everything will be ok
@diane_boxworman is v v good at playing v v bad. She sneers and seethes and glares and is frankly terrifying
And @sirdannyfarber makes good use of HMU with his scar and gold tooth as the sleazy rival ranch owner. Fun seeing him play a baddy
Plus we have other stars as well, the beautiful locations, Pie the horse, and of course the donut
It's a well put together, good looking vert, that leaves with a big smile on your face.
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
Some really well written moments here, when Vince tells Sarah not to be ashamed of her changing body with pregancy, plus gorgeous shots in the night and rain. It looks and feels super. Travis DesLaurier is swoonworthy. Jesse Gallagher has an amazing ability to glow and be radiant when her character is happy. It's very good.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
Stepmother Adele is the worst, miracle she hasn't been fired by the family. Endless scheming and murder attempts.
😂 Comedy gold:
Grandpa Sterling offering to put his boot in snobby Madison's butt. And telling her to 'get'.
🎺 Unsung hero:
Grandpa Sterling who teaches Sarah to read. These scenes are so heart warming. Love the ending with Dr Seuss as well. And I have to mention the donut - used as an engagement ring. Just superb. Already a front runner for best performance by a piece of food for the 2026 VDL Fan Awards.
