REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Now you're talking. Bring it on, a totally kick ass female lead character.
Neela Jolene is fabulous as Isabella in this. She doesn't take any sh*t, runs rings around nemesis Eliza, saves her mum's life twice, and looks iconic in that catsuit and gold dress. This is what we have been waiting for in verticals. A female character with agency.
No wonder Oliver (Chance McCoy) falls for her. The woman is a legend. I mean she has a serum that apparently cures everything.
Really liked Chance McCoy in this, he sometimes has some facial mannerisms that remind me of George Clooney. Put this man in more verticals.
It all works because we have a pitch perfect villain in Eliza (Alicia Underwood) who you almost feel for at one stage as she is pushed out of the family by her own misdeeds.
And then so many brilliant lines and performances from everyone else.
Nick Ritacco is a hoot as Brian with his giraffe, and then weaponising a chess piece.
Bunny Klein Gibson brings Doris Roberts vibes as the mischievous granny.
Gregory Rogstad as best mate Donny gets a great line 'dude that's my phone'.
Kalond Irlanda runs around after Oliver a lot as a faithful number 2 and has some great facial reactions.
Kelly Ann Barrett has to cough up blood multiple times but manages to make it look elegant and I love that she does see Eliza for who she is fairly quickly.
The only issue is we aren't told enough about what Oliver does, you almost feel Isabella is too good for him and could do better. Could have done with a little bit more romance here to show why Isabella goes for him. Also wish Oliver stopped calling her kiddo, that really bugged me after a while.
And yes the whole thing is rather preposterous with the whole serum thing and Isabella's hacker life but so much fun.
And 💯 worth a watch to see Neela Jolene be utterly iconic and a girl power queen.
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
Well Neela Jolene in that catsuit on a motorbike, and shaking her hair out when she takes the helmet off is iconic. No wonder Oliver falls hook, line and sinker.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
I love Eliza (Alicia Underwood) so much, all the passive aggressive comments at the beginning. Her facial expressions are perfection. And then the irony that by behaving badly she does start to isolate herself from the family, and they pull away as she feared…
😂 Comedy gold:
Brian’s (Nick Ritacco) total lack of concern for the butler who does a spectacular, painful looking on screen fall, and instead worried “Is the giraffe okay?” - and then his proud face when he gives it to Isabella.
🎺 Unsung hero:
Hooray for Grandma (Bunny Klein Gibson) who sees the fun in not letting on that Isabella is actually his fiancée to Oliver!
