REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We have come a long way. I will always have a fondness for werewolf verticals with lots of fur rugs drapes over people's shoulders and running around in the woods
But then as per usual @watchcandyjar raise the bar
The story is slight here, what makes it are the mesmerizing performance and hypnotic atmosphere. Embermoon feels adjacent to Forks in Twilight, the same sense of forbidding
@nick.milone was good in Oops I Lied.... He is extraordinary here. It's the best physicality of the world I have seen in a vertical but it never strays into comedy. That takes real skill. And the throw down with alpha is @jameshydeofficial is brilliantly done. We have one use of AI for a transformation scene, but wisely it is not used here, and that makes the outcome more effective.
You need a counterpoint when you have a performance this good and @hallelf17 brings it, as she always does. She is straight and true throughout all the story, and some of the best scenes are with dad @ribhillis who is also extraordinary. This is a short, right story and the cast don't have long to pull you in, they have to take you right to the heart of it quickly. And they do, you know who Doe and her dad are, and instantly understand what is at stake
Everyone is superb @kirsten.kendall as protective Clara and @vishay_singh as the patient Ron, who gets manhandled by Ace, and has the most important book in the school
It's all very well done, you have a strong love story, lots of chemistry and it is over all too soon.
Superb work by everyone and another @watchcandyjar hit - director @applevonmulberry
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
Nick Milone is extraordinary in this - has to be the best ever werewolf portrayal in a vertical, it is all barely controlled power and animalistic urges. But he channels it into longing for Doe, and is matched by Halle Fletcher who holds her own, and is the calm to Ace's restlessness.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
This is well written, so we don't go down the usual route with Clara, instead she is just trying to protect the pack. The real issue is Ace's dad, the Alpha. Which makes the submission scene all the more powerful.
😂 Comedy gold:
Look the name Doe made me laugh, at least the explanation is that it is short for Dorothy. But does feel like a name shoehorned in because it works for the title. Dorothy is usually shorted to Dotty - but doesn't have quite the same ring!
🎺 Unsung hero:
Ron - because he asks for nothing, but provides Doe with what she needs, the book explaining Embermoon.
