REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐
The thing I like about the Verticals on CherryShort is that the writing has a bit more depth. They are fairly traditional vertical stories, but things are developed a little bit more. Layla has a real reason to endure the usual vertical bullying at her new school, getting her dad's legal case reopened. And this vert has a very strong ending, as we realise there is a wider conspiracy
Plus Mark is not straight forward - he has moments of strength and moments of weakness - Kei Caracena does a great job of keeping the audience onside as Mark is not that likeable for a lot of the vertical
He let's slinky Serena be way too mean. And takes a long time to stand up to his mother
It is no wonder Layla struggles to trust him, Victoria Tait does a brilliant job of closing down and shutting him off when he takes it too far
And an attempted SA is handled more appropriately, the attacker totally loses it and we get a Manosphere type rant. It is shown to have an impact and consequences, we don't just rush onto the next scene.
It's another strong vertical on this newish app, showcasing some great European talent
Many thanks to CherryShort for the coins to watch, review and opinion my own
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
Well Mark is a tad arrogant shall we say. It’s a bit Rowan Calloway - and just when you think he is changed, he drops poor Layla in it. But he does finally come through at the end, and redeem himself.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
We have a few - I can’t tell you the main one, as it will ruin the suprise. But when they lose it, is is properly terrifying. And the monologue of why they are doing this awful thing is powerful, it digs into the warped psychology of the character.
😂 Comedy gold:
Not really comedy here - as the tension is kept throughout, but Mark’s jealous moments are well done. Also principal, don’t introduce the new pupil as poor, not of your class and on a scholarship - not helpful lady!
🎺 Unsung hero:
That poor cuddly toy! Thankfully rescued from the bin. Why are vertical villainesses suddenly targeting plush toys (usually the last reminder of a dead relative). Their evil knows no bounds.
