Just no. Stop it.

Anyway on to the story here, which is a bold attempt as a grown up Iove triangle. No slapping or nonsense, as Elena is a good person stuck in a horrible situation. Poor Clara falls in love with the wrong person. And Prince Adrian is a bit useless having gone blindly along with the whole engagement until he realizes he wants more

It's a really tricky line to balance and storywise doesn't quite work, Adrian ends up weak and insipid. Instead I was rooting for Elena the whole way through. She was my fave and felt like the FL to me, wanted to follow her story.

@emilygateley works miracles as Clara could be really unlikeable. She knows from early on Adrian is taken. She brings all the raw emotion and guilt and pain at hurting someone who has become a friend. Emily made me feel for Clara, and that takes skill.

@tobyelliotttt has an incredibly tricky job as the character is a bit useless, but does sterling work showing a slightly worn down , stifled man who has subsumed his own identity to the crown

But the story is completely stolen by the 3 other characters

@kayleigh_lfoster is hilarious, heartbreaking and wonderful as Elena, prim and proper but with an amazing screech at the beginning as she chases after her runaway groom, cowed when shouted at by the queen and iconic at the end.

And have to give a shout out to @rowena.bentley as the Queen. This is someone who can quell a room with a look, has amazing presence and you can well believe her son has not been able to stand up to her and say what he really wants

Plus the secretary, who is understandably put out having arranged all past weddings. No one likes change.

The whole thing looks gorgeous, zips along and has a good end

It's a really brave attempt at telling a different story that almost comes off

Didn't quite work for me, but applaud the effort to do something new.

💖 Top swoonworthy moment:

It's challenging as the meet cute on the roadside is brief, and we have to believe from this there is enough of a spark that Adrian and Clara risk all. I didn't feel it, the scene is too short. It works much better later on when they have time together in the cottage, and you see them really connect, and that these two belong together.

🦹🏼‍♂️ Top villain award:

To be honest it is Prince Adrian. He causes the whole mess by failing to stand up to mum, and really lets Elena down. Not impressed dude.

😂 Comedy gold:

Both the secretary and the Queen are a hoot – especially the Queen telling Adrian and Clara to sleep together and get it out of their systems.

🎺 Unsung hero:

Elena. Elena is an ICON. Trying to do the right thing, getting barked at by the Queen, stuck with a frankly rubbish fiance who never backs her up or cares. Despite all this she is lovely to Clara, and really values the friendship. So HURRAH for the ending, and Elena riding off to her own freedom.
