REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Look how far verticals have come....this was filmed on the Caribbean island of Nevis and is a strong romantic thriller
We follow young athlete Jamal who does the right thing in intervening to save Constance, and is soon hopelessly in love and dragged into local power struggles.
@swagboyq is super as Jamal, he captures the idealism of youth and hope that love can conquer all, and then increasing desperation and determination to right his mistakes at the end
@meawilkerson Constance is harder to read - is she playing Jamal, or too scared of Malik and Wes to leave. Would love to see a sequel where Constance comes into her own and turns the tables on the men in her life
I last saw @davidjohncraig in a body swap rom com. So was rather unnerved to find him channeling Robert Carlyle as Begbie, when playing Wes. He is just brilliant.
Then we have @lamonarchey as Malik, who is endlessly manipulating everyone around him, really think he should do better by his sister
And Microhouse Co Founder @whostroy as Travis who is the big brother everyone wants. Travis is the best, gives great counsel, doesn't say I told you so, sees the big picture and helps Jamal out. This has to be the best sibling relationship I have seen so far in a vertical
Everything also looks phenomenal because of the location, we have overhead shots of the beach, a beach bar that is clearly in the Caribbean. It so so nice seeing locations that are not the same old mansions and swimming pools in LA.
My only quibbles are I wish Constance had been written with a bit more agency and a little bit more time on the central romance.
But overall great project from @microhousefilms @autumnfederici @tayediggsinsta and @garythewise @alhirsch99
More please.
💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
Well we love Jamal as he does the right thing at the very beginning, intervening to help Constance. He is a good one, and throughout the story is only trying to do right by everyone despite getting dragged into more and more trouble.
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
Wes is frankly terrifying. Just his physicality of how he owns the space, the way his temper can explode without warning, the loss of control at the party and then attempt to smooth it over.
😂 Comedy gold:
I do think Malik needs to up his game. He doesn’t spot that Wes has turned on him, is a bit rubbish at looking out for his sister. Honestly you don’t look like you are really in control mate.
🎺 Unsung hero:
The location, Nevis, is stunning. But it has to go to Travis who is the best big brother ever. He coaches his younger brother, forgives Jamal for everything, he makes sure Constance is okay… what a guy.
